The short answer
No Maitland fencing business publishes a price, so here are the nearest published guides. A NSW quote marketplace puts a 1.8 m Colorbond fence at "$85-$150/m" installed (The Quote Yard, August 2026, GST not stated), and a Sydney fencing contractor at $100 – $160 per metre installed, including GST (North Shore Fencing and Gates, 2025). Removing the old fence is extra, and on a dividing fence neighbours usually share the cost half each.

Checked 28 October 2026. No Maitland fencing business publishes a price. North Shore Fencing and Gates is a Sydney contractor; its 2025 guide includes GST, covers sheets, posts in concrete, rails, installation and clean-up, and gives $100 – $140 per metre in its text where its table says $100 – $160. The Quote Yard (published 14 August 2026) is a NSW quote marketplace and doesn't state GST. What's The Damage's national figures (October 2026) include GST. Removing an old fence is extra.
Each row is one publisher's own figure. They aren't averaged or combined, and none of them is a quote for your fence.
What a 20 m Colorbond back fence costs
Take a 20 m back fence. By our arithmetic, at The Quote Yard's NSW range of $85 – $150 a metre, 20 m comes to $1,700 – $3,000, which is the figure The Quote Yard gives for twenty metres itself; it adds "$400 to $800 to remove the old fence". At North Shore Fencing and Gates' Sydney range of $100 – $160 a metre, 20 m is $2,000 – $3,200 including GST.
Shared equally with a neighbour under the Dividing Fences Act, each owner pays half of a sufficient fence. A lattice top or a taller fence that only one owner wants is that owner's cost.
Extras that change a Colorbond fence price
- Removing the old fence: pulling out posts and footings and taking the old fence away.
- Fibro sheets: an old fibro fence may contain asbestos; more than 10 m² must be removed by a licensed asbestos removalist. See fibro fences.
- Slope: panels are stepped or raked to follow the ground, which takes more cutting and labour.
- Rock and roots: post holes in rock or through tree roots take longer.
- Height and extensions: 2.1 m sheets, lattice or slat tops cost more per metre, and taller fences have approval limits.
- Gates: priced on their own; see gates.
Colorbond extensions and removal prices
| Extra | Price | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Lattice top (Sydney) | $130 – $170 per m | North Shore Fencing and Gates |
| Removing the old fence (Sydney) | add $15 – $30 per m | North Shore Fencing and Gates |
| Removing the old fence (NSW) | $20 – $40 per m, more if asbestos | The Quote Yard |
| Licensed removal and disposal of fibro (NSW) | $80 – $150 per m | The Quote Yard |
Checked 28 October 2026. North Shore Fencing and Gates' Sydney guide (2025) includes GST and doesn't say whether its lattice figure is the whole fence or the add-on alone. The Quote Yard (14 August 2026) doesn't state GST; it says a sloping boundary needing raked panels "adds roughly twenty per cent to the labour". No Hunter business publishes these prices.
Quotes, contracts and deposits for a Colorbond fence
A Colorbond fence worth more than $5,000 including GST is residential building work in NSW: it's built under a contractor licence that covers fencing, with a written contract giving the licence number, and a deposit of no more than 10%. Most single back fences come in under $5,000 by the figures above, but a long boundary, two sides at once or an asbestos replacement can pass it. See checking a fencer's licence.
Questions about Colorbond fence cost
How much is a Colorbond fence per metre in NSW?
The Quote Yard, a NSW quote marketplace, gives "$85-$150/m" installed for a 1.8 m Colorbond fence (August 2026, GST not stated). A Sydney contractor, North Shore Fencing and Gates, publishes $100 – $160 per metre installed including GST. Your own price comes after the fence line has been seen.
Is a Colorbond fence cheaper than timber?
In The Quote Yard's NSW guides, treated pine paling ($75 – $130 a metre installed) starts a little lower than Colorbond ($85 – $150), and hardwood paling ($130 – $200) costs more.
Who pays for a Colorbond dividing fence?
Usually both neighbours, half each, for a sufficient fence, after a fencing notice under the Dividing Fences Act. Anything better than that, such as a lattice top only one owner wants, is that owner's cost.
Does removing the old fence cost extra?
Usually. North Shore Fencing and Gates' Sydney guide says to "Add $15-30/m"; The Quote Yard gives $20 – $40 a metre in NSW, more if asbestos.
How much does a Colorbond fence on a slope cost?
No published guide gives a dollar figure. The Quote Yard says a sloping boundary needing raked panels "adds roughly twenty per cent to the labour".
Do I need council approval for a new Colorbond fence?
Usually not for a back or side fence that meets the exempt development rules; see the fence approval guide for the heights and the extra limits for flood, heritage and bush fire prone land.
